What tripod should I buy?
A lot of you are asking me about what equipment I use, whilst I am a keen photographer, I am certainly not a gear expert so take what I say with a grain of salt. What I can do is share with you my experiences and hopefully that will help you make a decision as to what is best for you. Recently on my Facebook page I was asked about what Tripod I use and recommend. I use a Manfrotto 055xPROB, this is a great tripod in some ways, and a pain in the butt in other ways! I will start with the positives… It has 3 leg sections, and is a sturdy platform for just about anything I can throw at it. It is also relatively affordable compared to other leading brands of similar quality (the Manfrotto is Italian made). The negatives… it is a tad heavy and I find it really cold to handle in the cooler weather, I know this sounds like I am a sook! But carrying around a tripod that is freezing is no fun! I find my smaller carbon fibre doesn’t have this problem at all!… Now if I had my time again, I would get the Carbon Fibre Manfrotto 055CXPRO3, it’s more expensive but almost a kilogram lighter and won’t conduct the cold!
The Daily Pic – ANZAC Bridge
I took this pic the morning after the fire brigade had been back burning, the smoke haze creates a really nice warm glow as the sun rises… enjoy!
